The Lowdown

Who: Laura Latterman, with cameos by Nancy Decker

What: The original idea was for the two of us to try and follow the book and actually adhere to the rules (as much within our abilities and safety). However, it seems that I, Laura, will be doing most of the blogging - Seeing as how I'm the only one crazy enough to keep up with it. I'll share little tidbits about my life in general and my book-related accomplishments. Feedback and suggestions are appreciated!

Why: Mostly because I can; however, it also gives me an odd hobby and adds some spice to my life. And, it's a great way for my friends and family to keep up with me.

When: Day 1 was August 12th, 2010... It's a loooong work in progress.

Where: Littleton, Colorado & San Juan Capistrano, California

And this is where the magic begins...

Sugar and Spice

Day  77
10-27-2010
Stockpile as Much Free Sugar as Possible

Well, conveniently enough, we had a catered breakfast and a catered lunch at work that day.  So, when the meetings were finished, I scavenged for all the leftover condiments, sugars and whatnot.  I also took all the leftovers and donated them to a women’s shelter on my way home from work.  How sweet, right?  (yes, pun intended)

Day  79
10-29-2010
Today, Take the Path You Fear

Today all of us gals are dressed up for Halloween in the office.  I was a little nervous with my costume.  I put a lot of time, effort and money into my costume.  But, it included roller skates and booty shorts…  So, I wasn’t sure how kosher it’d be to wear to the office.  But, I have to say it’s been a big hit.  :0)  And I’m so happy I went all out!  Best Halloween costume ever!!!  (I even made my building's newsletter!)

Meatballs and Hard Working Women

Day  75
10-25-2010
Today, Work Hard Instead of Hardly Working

I worked my rear off at the office on Monday.  Normally, I bide my time until the afternoon rolls around and then do the 20 bills that come in.  But not this time.  This time I did three mailers, stocked/inventoried supplies, and did a ton of bills.  Way to earn my paycheck!

Day  76
10-26-2010
Today, Celebrate your Womanhood

After a long day at work, I went grocery shopping.  I, of course, remembered to bring and use my coupons.  This is a very female thing to do.  I bought a bottle of white wine, because my feminine predilections called for something fun a fruity, and headed home to cook dinner for my loving husband (I mean roommate).  I made homemade meatballs from scratch!  SO good!  And, to go with them, I made a tomato cream sauce that I served over tri-color rotini and sautéed up some veggies on the side.  Nancy and I gossiped over dinner and then flipped channels until bedtime...  Where I laid in bed with a good book, my two kitties, and a glass of wine.  You can’t get much more girlie than that.  :0)

Meatballs a la Lowe

1 lb Ground Spicy Italian Sausage
1 lb Ground Lean Chicken/Pork/Turkey/Beef (whatever you feel like using)
1/3 Package of Stove Top Savory Herbs & Spices Stuffing
2 Eggs (or Egg Beaters)
1/3 lb Fresh Diced Mushrooms
1/2 cup Fresh Chopped Celery
1/4 cup Fresh Chopped Cilantro
1/4 cup Fresh Chopped Basil
1/4 cup Fresh Chopped Garlic
1/2 cup Fresh Chopped Green Onions
3 oz Tomato Paste (1/2 of those little cans)
1 tbsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil
1/2 cup White Wine
1 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
Montreal Steak Seasoning
Mrs. Dash Original Seasoning

Mix all ingredients thoroughly in a bowl.  If the mixture is not holding together enough because it is too dry, then try adding another egg.  Or, if it is too wet, add some more stuffing mix.  Form into golf ball sized meatballs and place on a foil-lined cooking sheet.  Make sure that your pan/sheet has a lip.  OR, for best results, place the meatballs separately onto a non-stick mini-muffin tin – This makes turning them and clean-up so much easier!  Bake in a pre-heated oven at 375 degrees until then begin to brown.  Then turn them over and place them under the broiler.  Crisp them up and rotate them until the outsides are nice and well-done.  Take them out and serve them with your favorite dish or sauce!  Enjoy!!!

The Pumpkin of my Mother's Eye...

Day  78
10-28-2010
Send Your Long-Suffering Mother Some Flowers

Now, I usually send my mom flowers for either Valentine’s Day or Mother’s Day…  But I thought it’d be fun to send her some Halloween flowers.  :0)   And, coincidently, there was a ‘day’ for that in the book!  She called me this morning from her office, “Oh my god!  They are beautiful!  Thank you so much, sweetie!”  I did good.

Canary Kisses

Day 73
10-23-2010
Kiss Someone Where They've Never Been Kissed

Last night, while on a sugar high, I kissed Jason's eye.  That part in between the eyebrow and the lid.  Hehe...  He laughed because I pulled his eye open.  Weird, but cute and silly.  Mission accomplished.

Day 74
10-24-2010
Try a New Kind of Fruit

Jason bought me a canary melon in LaJunta, CO.  Nancy made me an omlette this morning for breakfast and served it with some of the melon.  It was REALLY good.  In fact, I think it might be my new favorite melon.  It tastes like a cross between a canteloup and a honeydew.  Yummers!

Longest Week Ever...

So, I made it my goal to get organized with my Book today.  As it turns out, I completely skipped Day 36.  Not just the number, but I moved straight from Day 35 on 09-15-2010 to Day 37 on 09-16-2010.  So... I'm doing Day 36 today.  So, those of you keeping count, I know this is so not in order, but I needed to fix it.  Hope that makes sense...

Day 36 (substitution/make-up)

Barter Today

I placed an ad on Craigslist.com to barter my iPod and some dvd's for a bike.  Wish me luck!

You are a late bloomer. You are very independent. You care little about what others think of you, forging your own unconstrained path in this world.

The Right Foot

Day 70
10-19-2010
Start Today on the Right Foot

9:27am
Well...  As many of us ladies will tell you, we sometimes go to bed with a clear plan on what to wear in the morning.  I did the same last night.  I was going to wake up, shower, do my hair and make-up, and then put on a colorful dress that I have yet to wear.  Unfortunately, I was too tired.  I reset my alarm, took a super quick shower, and blow dried my hair via the air vents in my car on my way to work.  I tossed my make-up bag in my purse, tried on the dress, thought I looked horrible and then took it off.  I instead tried on my suit pants, but they were a tad snug.  Ugh.  It's one thing to feel fat - As I know us ladies are constantly feeling fat, even if we are not - But, it's a whole other thing to prove it to yourself!  BLERG!  So, finally, I gave up, tossed on a pair of pants and a sweater and stomped out the door.  I'm at work now, and done with my work for the day, other than the phone ringing and the afternoon mail...  So, now I'm feeling fat and sitting here bored and writing about it.  Which, I suppose I will equate with depression.  So far, I think the left foot was better.  More later.

Day 67
10-16-2010
Don't Spend Any Money Today

With thanks to Jason and Jim, I was able to accomplish this!  I had school, which I've prepaid (or I suppose the government has), then did some fruitless thrift store shopping.  I went home and grabbed the roomy and dragged her to meet up with Jason at The Robusto Room.  Instead, Jason had met Jim at the Robusto Room, who in turn invited us to his place for scotch.  So, all four of us sat and chatted and drank Jim's leftovers from the scotch tasting.  It was a lovely way to spend an afternoon.  Nancy went home, and Jason and I swung by his place then headed out for dinner.  He took me out to Jing for dinner and then to see Titus at Comedy Works in the Landmark Center.  Dinner was yummy, but the show was AMAZING!!!

Start Today on your Left Foot

Well, I'm feeling better than I did over the weekend, but still sleepy.  My left eye is twitching.  Kinda annoying.  But I wouldn't say that I've had particular luck today, either good or bad.  In further news, yesterday evening involved lots of Jason, pets, Titus, and homemade chilli.  Yum!  I'd say that the Left Day was pretty good.

Days In and Days Out

Day 60
10-09-2010
Indulge Yourself

So, I had a test that morning and was freaking out and paid to park on campus so that I knew I wouldn’t be late.  I ended up finishing the exam pretty quickly, so I had a lot of time to kill, which I wasted by going clothing shopping on the 16th Street Mall at Ross.  Later, Jason’s birthday worked out well in my favor.  We went over Jim and Val Guthrie’s for a scotch tasting event.  There I indulged in tasting seven different scotches!  Jim had also made his infamous Scottish Hunter’s Stew (which I think had about 5 different meats), and Jason brought along cigars to enjoy.  After that, the two of us went down to Mario’s Two-Fisted Pizza for an after dinner snack.  Then we met up his buddy, Chris, and my gals, Nancy and Heather, over at Delaney’s for a few beers.  All in all, I had a wonderful day of indulgence and Jason had a fantastic birthday.

Day 62
10-11-2010
Today, do something that could save you a lot of future hassle.

I went through some of my moving boxes until I found the spare key to my car.  I then strategically hid it in the living room and made sure Nancy knew where it was...  Just in case.

Day 64
10-14-2010
Learn to tell one joke properly.

I love this one!  Props to Natalie Moran for telling me this joke in high school...  I still use it to this day to help cheer people up.

Day 65
10-15-2010
Make sure your name is on the internet

I love Google.  There are approximately 315 pages about "Laura Latterman".  That's me!  :0)  I'm such a happy little narcisist.

Chili Wah-Wah

So...  I need preface today's story with another story...

Back in April, I was dating a guy named Tom.  Tom fancied himself quite the cook.  So, he invited me and some friends over for a chili dinner.  He made three batches from scratch - The spiciest of which had both jalapenos and habaneros in it.  Everything was very yummy and we played Dealer's Choice all night.

Later, when Tom and I were being intimate, my flower felt like it was on fire.  I pulled him off of me and told him what was wrong...  The next words out of his mouth were, "Oh my God!  I bet it was the chilis!  I tried washing my hands, but the oil just won't come off."

Yes.  That's right.  I had jalapeno and habanero oil on my wah-wah.  It was one of the worst and most uncomfortable feelings ever.

Which, oddly enough, I'd decided to tie into today's assignment: Do Something Kinky Today.

Today I went to lunch with my friend, Jennifer, to a yummy Vietnamese restaurant called Pho-Yo.  I ordered Chin Pho (well-done beef brisket noodle soup).  It was SO yummy.  I tore up the basil and jalapenos and added them to my soup along with some sriracha.  I was in pho heaven.

So, this was all wonderful until I later had to use the restroom and change a feminine product.  OH MY GOD.  I thought there was something wrong with my product.  Things flashed through my mind like toxic shock syndrome and allergic reactions...  I freaked out and told Jennifer (who also felt nature's call) that there was something wrong.  Her comment?  "Maybe it was the jalapeno?"

Seriously.  What is wrong with me?!  How does this happen to me twice in one year, and NEITHER time I was able to figure out what was wrong?!

My poor poor wah-wah.  It was SO uncomfortable.

Day 59
10-08-2010
Change Someone’s Mind Today

I tried to explain to someone that most transvestites were not gay.  They adamantly said that I was wrong.  I know for a fact that I am correct and yet still they would not budge.  I understand not changing an opinion, since those are typically based on personal thoughts and morals, but this is a FACT - One that I can prove!  Ugh.  I hate knowing I’m absolutely correct and have the data to back it up, and yet someone just won't listen.

“Most cross-dressers are not, repeat, are not gay.”
“[…] Experts will vouch for this, the cross-dressers are not gay, they’re not homosexual, they’re not transsexual either.”
“The term ‘transvestite’ was invented by the German sexologist and homosexual rights activist Magnus Hirschfeld (1868-1935) in the early part of the twentieth century.  Hirschfeld observed in Die Transvestiten, on the basis of his own research among (and friendship with) hundreds of cross-dressers, that transvestism was not in itself a sign of underlying homosexuality and in fact occurred most frequently in heterosexuals.”

“A true transvestite is almost always a heterosexual male (Docter, 1988; Wheeler et al., 2008), although perhaps this is because cross-dressing for women is much more acceptable in our society.

Day 61
10-10-2010

Today, Return to Childhood

In honor of Jason's birthday, his parents took us all to the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Baily circus!  It was awesome.  First, Jason and I had yummy Chinese food on S. Broadway, and then we headed up to the Denver Colosium where the show was being held.  I met his mom, Cheryl, his dad, Gale, his sister, Abby, his brother-in-law, Nathan, his niece, Kylie, and Nathan's nephew, Max.  The show was a blast.  There were seven tigers, a punck-rock clown, and a baby elephant named after President Obama (oh the irony).  Jason bought me a snow cone that came in a white horse mug/stein thingy... It was awesome because it looked like I was eating pony brains!!!

After the show (Jason was SOOOO happy, BTW),  we were invited over to the Page abode for pizza.  His family was very sweet and made me feel quite at home.  In fact, they invited me back over for dinner last night (Tuesday, Oct. 12th) for Jason's and Abby's (her's was a few days earlier) birthday dinner with the grandparents.  That's right...  I met the grandparents last night.  ;0)  I think I passed the test though.  Jason's mom thinks I'm pretty.  Hehe.

Nuts to you, Cookie!

Due to OVERWHELMING response to my fake personal ad, I had to delete the dang thing.  However, if you're daring enough to read some of my replies...  Check out the rest of this post.  But, be prepared for some raunchy language.  I did not include the two inappropriate pics I also received...  *shudder*  Pay special attention to the time of the email and the title of thier email - Remember, I only posted the ad at 4:26pm!!!

Banana!

My banana and blog are famous!  Well... Not quite.  But still - Props!

What Goes Around Comes Around
So, I mentioned the other day that I was meeting a guy to help him with his resume.  Well, I met with him on Tuesday, took a bunch of notes, and emailed him a brand new resume today.  :0)  I got warm fuzzies for just helping someone out.  He was extremely grateful - Just a guy down on his luck a it and in need of a little help.  Let's hope he nails a job!

Death, Notes, and Signatures

Day 54
10-03-2010
Improve Your Signature Day

I tried...  It still looks like a bunch of crud.  I look forward to marrying into a shorter last name so that my signature will be easier to manage.  Latterman is just too awkward to write quickly, and when you do, it just turns into scribble.  Bleh.

Day 55
10-04-2010
Family Love Day

So...  This entry is supposed to be about exploring socially inappropriate feelings for your family members.  Other than the fact that I think both my mom and brother are attractive people...  All I can really say to the rest of this is EW!!!!!!!  But, oddly enough, I had a dream about my dad that night.  It didn't have to do with love so much as I dreamt that he died.  It was weird.  My mom, brother and I were staying in a hotel suite.  I don't know why (I suppose you never really do with dreams).  And for some reason, my dad came to visit, but it wasn't so much a visit as he came to stay with us at the hotel with the full knowledge that he was going to die.  He died in his bed at the hotel.  Nothing fancy or dramatic.  He just didn't wake up.  My mom was laying fully clothed on the other bed and was softly sobbing and sad.  My brother was sad but not crying.  I wasn't upset.  Instead I took it upon myself to start cleaning the hotel room, gathered up my dad's stuff to either throw away or donate...  It was very weird.  And, now, a few days later in my fully awake state, I remember that I haven't heard from the bastard in over 6 years and I guess he already is dead to me, and that's why I wasn't upset.  So, it's not love that I feel for my father - It's indifference.

Day 56

Leave a Note on Someone's Car Windshield

My contribution:

Nancy's note was awesome.  On the inside of the napkin it said "Made you look!"

Measure Your IQ

10-02-2010

I tried taking the book's little IQ test.  I preface this with the fact that only half of the questions were real, and there were two of those damn number pattern thingies...  Ugh!  I hate those.  Anywho, I scored 120pts that gave me a solid "Good" IQ.  So sad.  The silly thing is that I love quizes like that.  So I continue taking random tests on various sites.  My favorite was on the Mensa site.  They had what they called the Mensa Workout.  I got 23/30.  I wonder what that means...

Nice Things

So, sometimes it just feels good to help out your fellow man.  I am going to do my part by helping a guy down on his luck and in need of a new resume.  I responded to a request for assistance a man posted on Craigslist.com's "Wanted" section.  Let us all hope that he is a genuinely nice guy that just needs a little help...  And not some creepy freak.  So, I will be meeting Allen Johnson tomorrow at Barnes & Noble by Southwest Plaza around 5:30pm.  (Just in case...)

Dalai Lama

I got a card in the mail thanking me for my contribution to the Dalai Lama Foundation.  :0)

Find Your Doppelganger

I tried...  But the phone number for the Laura in New York was disconected, and I couldn't find any contact info for the Laura in Illinois - Only her race scores.  :0(
